Mental Health Professional

The Regional Personality Disorder Service in Wellington provides a regional specialist service for people with severe personality disorder and/or complex presentation. The focus is particularly on consultation and training with the aim of building competence in secondary Mental Health Services in the Greater Wellington region (Kapiti, Porirua, Wellington and Hutt Valley) and through clinics for consultation and second opinions in the wider central region.

As the MH Professional for the RPDS you will:

  • Participate in the ongoing process of service evaluation and development
  • Have access to in-service training and support towards external education
  • Participate in a culture that strongly supports supervision and team work
  • Have opportunity to hone skills in assessing, formulating and treatment planning for a very complex client population
  • Challenge yourself in the area of networking and relationship building from the point of view of a tertiary, regional team

The role has a mix of therapy, clinical consultation and training. There is opportunity for developing specialist skills alongside other experienced clinicians. Training and supervision is well supported. You will enjoy meeting the challenges of providing care to a complex group of clients who present with diagnoses across a number of axi(e)s. An interest in teaching multidisciplinary groups would be an advantage.

Qualifications: You will have a post graduate diploma in clinical psychology (or equivalent) and a masters or doctoral level degree in psychology. You must be registered under the clinical scope with the New Zealand Psychologists Board http://www.psychologistsboard.org.nz/  & have a current practising certificate (New Zealand).

Essential skills:

  • Proven, demonstrated track record in the treatment, including psychotherapy, of clients with personality disorders and/or complex presentations
  • Ability to work comfortably alongside senior clinicians
  • Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of psychological theory and practice
  • Highly skilled in assessment & management of risk & have the ability to apply theory to practice
  • Ability to develop & implement, training to clinicians at a variety of levels of experience/seniority - based on international best practice guidelines
